Minutes later, they were once again seated on chairs formed in a circle.

“Do we even know which spell we’re doing?” asked Phyllis, looking around at the rest of the girls’ faces.

Gwyn looked down at the spell book in her lap and threw her hands out on either side of herself. “I have no idea. Obviously we have no body for Sorceress Halliwell to reunite with as she’s been a ghost for so many years. But at the very least, we need to figure out how to unleash her ghost so she can wander freely in the world instead of being tied to this house.”

“So we do a vanquishing spell?” suggested Loni with a shrug.

Char shook her head and glanced around the circle at the rest of the women. “I don’t think it would be a vanquishing spell. The way Sorceress Halliwell explained vanquishing spells to us when we went to the Institute was that they were used for the destruction of magical beings or ghosts. The poor dear has been through enough already, we don’t want to destroy her!”

Gwyn flipped through the pages. “Right…so no vanquishing spells.”

“What about a simple curse removal spell?” asked Loni.

Phyllis lifted her top lip. “You don’t think Kat’s tried one of those by now?”

Loni shrugged. “You know what they say about assuming.”

“And since we don’t have a body, we can’t do a resurrection spell,” said Gwyn, pointing at one in the book and then flipping right past it.

“Nope,” agreed Char with a nod. “How about an unbinding spell?”

“I mean, we can try it,” said Gwyn, flipping to the front of the book. She ran her finger down the table of contents. “There’s one in here.”

“I feel like Kat would have tried this by now,” said Loni as she took Gwyn and Char’s hands.

“I feel like she would have tried all of these,” agreed Char. “But there are five of us and there was just one Kat. Combined, we’ve got to be more powerful than she was. Maybe that will be the difference.”

“I’ll call Sorceress Halliwell first, then we can try the unbinding spell,” said Phyllis before sucking in a deep breath and straightening her back.

They were all quiet for several long seconds, gathering their energy and regulating their breathing before Phyllis began to recite her summoning chant.

“Sorceress Halliwell, we call to you,

It’s time to reappear.

Make yourself visible,

Show us you can hear.”
